On the last day of SBC Summit Latinoamerica, Fernando Noodt, Senior Journalist for SBC Noticias, was joined by SBC Noticias Brasil’s Business Journalists Ana Maria Menezes and Elisa Marcante who recapped the biggest talking points from their time at the summit.
Elisa detailed how she interviewed Leonardo Benites, CEO of Propane, who spoke about the importance of responsible advertising in the upcoming regulated online gaming market in Brazil.
Fernando explained that this topic was a key theme throughout the summit as it is a key consideration across the region.
He said: “I think responsible publicity and responsible advertising is a very important topic. It is one of the most covered topics in the agenda across Latin America in general, and particularly in Argentina.
“Over the last few months, there has been a lot of debate [in Argentina] around responsible publicity and some proposals to actually restrict publicity so definitely operators need to be on top of how to properly advertise their business because they don’t want to get on the bad side of lawmakers because always like to say, let’s go with an all-out ban on advertising.
“It’s important for the Brazilian industry which is quite new with the regulation coming into force. I think it’s very important that they actually be proactive and start considering these types of things early on in the industry’s evolution.”
Ana added that she also attended a panel focused on how operators can “make sure to choose influencers and brand ambassadors that are aligned with the company so the company will not be affected by what they say in a bad way”.
Elsewhere in the podcast, Fernando also spoke about the news of a potential tax hike in the Mexican state of Guanajuato.
“A deputy in Guanajuato is looking to raise taxes in the country and they justify themselves by saying we want this to protect people for some reason which I’m not really understanding.
“That’s why I was saying earlier that the industry needs to be productive and needs to be in touch with lawmakers which I know it regularly is. People in Guanajuato are going to be very alert over this proposal.”
