Over 50% of bettors want to be able to budget their gambling spend according to the latest research from Neosurf and Betting Hero.
Appearing on an episode of iGaming Daily, Neosurf’s North American CEO, Sue Page, joined Neosurf’s CEO, Andrea McGeachin, to talk through the highlights of the research, which surveyed bettors in New Jersey, Colorado and North Carolina.
Sue also spoke about how players who were part of the study expressed an interest in using responsible gambling tools to help them keep account of their spending and other betting habits.
“When we asked [the players] how they budget it kind of created a guideline,” she explained.
“So then we asked, would you use tools? And they all said we would love tools. We would like to be able to set a limit or have something that we could have some more control over.
“They also liked the time spent on the site. That’s what most operators have implemented where it pops up on the app and says, hey you have spent this amount of time on the app, that resonated a lot with them.”
Sue spent time on the ground helping to conduct the research. She explained that many of the players who were part of the study spoke about how they see the money they are spending on gambling as an ‘entertainment budget’, similar to how people may view spending money each month on going out for dinner.
During the podcast, recorded on location at SBC Summit Lisbon, the duo also discussed why they believe this type of research, which involves speaking directly to players, is so important to help better the industry’s understanding of customers.
Sue said: “What we’ve seen when we were looking at research is that a lot of it’s coming from the industry top-down and not going bottom-up from actually talking to the players and asking them what they know about [responsible gambling].
“I come from a very customer-first background and I feel that there’s a big gap in people not focusing on what the player needs and wants. We’re so heavily regulated that you can get caught up in that red tape and the consumer experience gets lost.”
She ended the episode by confirming Neosurf’s plans to use the research to help “tweak” its existing product and bring something “very unique and very powerful for the player”.
