The Racing Post’s golf tipster Steve Palmer has called for an “each-way attack” on the upcoming DP World Tour Championship.

Appearing on the Sweet Spot, Palmer picked out Englishman Matt Wallace and the Dane Rasmus Hojgaard as his best bets for the tournament that marks the culmination of the DP World Tour season.

Wallace, who is at 18/1 to take home the trophy, finished second at last year’s iteration of the tournament, held on the Earth Course of the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, after carding a 60 in round three which featured a remarkable nine birdies in a row.

On the five-time DP World Tour winner, Palmer said: “Wallace is at the peak of his powers. I see a sixth DP World Tour title on Sunday for a player whose temperament has become a strength.

“He used to be a real hothead but at the age of 34 Wallace is much more mature. He’s not playing with any worries about getting a PGA Tour card next season, he’s got all the playing rights he can wish for. The only thing in his mind is winning the tournament and Ryder Cup points.”

Meanwhile, Palmer’s second pick Rasmus Hojgaard would be following in the footsteps of his twin brother Nicolai, who won the tournament last year, if he claims the top spot.

Hojgaard finished tied for 11th in last year’s tournament, however, according to Palmer, he was burdened by the pressure of securing a PGA Tour card.

Hojgaard agonisingly missed out on securing the card by one spot but this year he has already won the Irish Open and sits third in the DP World Tour’s season-long Race to Dubai rankings, assuring him of a place on the PGA Tour for next season.

As a result, the Dane can approach the tournament with “abandon” and focus on winning rather than the external pressures and permutations.

Palmer suggests backing both players each-way to maximise the chances of a return from the weekend’s action.
