Tom Horn Gaming’s’ recent slot release Beast Coinz was under the Beyond the Reels spotlight as Samuel Zido, explained how the title can offer “thrilling moments” and how it has a clear potential for expansion due to their character-driven game.
The game includes a fun visual style coupled with the ability to choose one of three characters upon starting up or throughout playing and each one has different parameters when it comes to multipliers.
After informing viewers on his own personal journey that included a curtailed professional football career which eventually led to entering the iGaming industry, Zido first spoke on the unique visuals that could be likened to a ‘cyberpunk’ style. However, while it shares that visual style, he revealed that they drew inspiration from the industry and other similar games.
“We wanted to bring something different,” Zido began. “It was related to a lot of grab coin games and a lot of collection game mechanics that are on the market right now. We wanted to bring a well-known feature with a twist.
“A lot of games use coins in a predictable but we saw a huge opportunity to inject more interactivity and more character-driven mechanics there. That was our inspriration and a user choosing a character at the start would be interesting for the players.”
One important aspect, as mentioned briefly, is the characters. Aiming to bring a fresh feel to the industry with this game, Zido explained the Wolf, Cat and Eagle characters, how they operate, how to ‘level’ them up, and why that helps users to enjoy the experience more.
“These are characters a player can choose at the start of a game and also during the gameplay. When a grab symbol lands on the reels together with coin symbols, the character springs into action and grabs the coins from the screen and instantly award a win to the player.
“What makes these mechanics exciting is the multiplier which comes with every character; every one has it’s own multiplier ranges. Some my offer more frequent grabs with smaller multiplier but some are fewer with higher multipliers. The multipliers are randoms but every coin grab could provide a surprising payout.”
One way this game offers a fresh feel is with the free spins. In terms of the multiplier parameters, it works differently and actively rewards users for staying engaged and collecting as they build towards a progressive reward. “In the free spins, the importance of grab symbol increases even more. Multipliers become progressive and no longer random. This means a player can collect a grab symbol during that round to level up their character, increasing the multiplier.
“This means each free spin session becomes a build-up experience where the more you collect the more potential you unlock and the grab symbol is not just a trigger, it is key to progressing in the game. While other symbols contribute to overall structure, the grab symbol and their interaction with coins truly define the gameplay and offer more thrilling moments.”
While the new features looks to offer a better player experience, it was something Zido and his team had in mind when it came to developing the product – as he cited player interaction and progression as key goals in the formulation of the system. “From day one, our goal was to make a game where player interaction, choice and progression take centre stage.
“We didn’t want just another coin collection slot, we wanted buyers to feel like they are part of the action, a game that is based on their decisions – giving them a sense of discovery and ownership.”
Looking ahead to the future, Zido revealed Beast Coinz was created with the long-term vision in mind and they are hopeful that it can fulful the huge potential for growth and expansion. “It was built with a long-term vision in mind. From the mechanics to the character system – everything was built to be expanded on. There is a huge potential to evolve it into a franchise that grows over time.
“The character-based structure is especially ripe for expansion. We can easily introduce new beats for example with unique multiplier behaviours, symbol interaction or even game-altering powers. This gives us flexibility to refresh the experience without changing the core gameplay loop.
He finished off the interview teasing there is an opportunity to “blend the system with other proven mechanics” hoping to combine hold system, cluster pay and time-based challenges all within the same character-driven frameworks that could offer something completely fresh and new on the market – and it looks like they are well on their way to carving a unique place in the iGaming world.
