High numbers in Brazil sports market could open doors to illegal markets

The sports betting industry has been revolutionized by Lula signing the provisional measure that paves the way for regulated sports betting in Brazil. While still facing a lengthy process, the industry is sharing the pros and cons of the recently unveiled rules.

The biggest talking point so far has been the increase in operator taxes, which rose from 16% to 18% of the GGR, making it one of the highest in the continent and potentially opening the doors to a parallel and illegal market.

Joining stand-in host Isadora Marcante, on iGaming Daily, sponsored by SBC Summit Latinoamerica, to discuss the regulation is Arthur Silva, the Technical Director of the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming.
