The gambling world descended upon Brazil for SBC Summit Rio as the country continues to celebrate the inauguration of its newly-regulated gaming market.
On the latest episode of iGaming Daily, Fernando Noodt was joined by the SBC Noticias Brasil team to discuss their highlights and key insights from the conference.
Top of the agenda, according to Fernando, has been marketing as the myriad of operators new to the region compete for market share.
He said: “People are looking for marketing specialists to actually see how they can better promote their businesses in a very crowded Brazilian market. There’s a lot of companies under the new regulation [who have] spent a lot of money on the licensing fee and are looking to promote their business.
“The biggest ones have the funds to do bigger marketing campaigns, but I think that the smaller and medium-sized companies are looking for how to better promote their business.”
An increasingly integral part of any operator’s marketing campaign is working alongside brand ambassadors and influencers. As a result, SBC Summit Rio offered an Influencer Academy, where influencers and operators alike could hear insight into how to most effectively use marketing strategies while remaining compliant with Brazilian regulations.
Fernando noted that new law ordinances mean that operators are responsible for the messaging of affiliates and ambassadors, therefore, they must take great care in moderating the output of influencers associating with their brand.
Looking ahead to the future, Ana Maria Menezes, Business Journalist for SBC Noticias Brasil, added that she believes the market’s approach to influencers will be a key consideration in the coming months.
“It’s how we can take a better approach towards influencers and change how the public perceives influencers sharing operators,” Ana explained. “How can we change the public opinion on betting and this is something if is I know a worldwide [trend] of trying to help people see it as entertainment. So this is something that we look forward to seeing in the future.”
Crypto adoption can set Brazil apart
To conclude the episode, Ted Orme-Claye, Editor of Payment Expert, dialled in to share what he has learnt from a payments perspective at SBC Summit Rio.
He explained that there has been a lot of praise for Brazil’s instant payment ecosystem (Pix) and the innovation this has brought to the sector, while there is also anticipation for the potential of crypto adoption in the region.
He concluded: “It seems that a lot of people here are quite keen to see more regulation around [crypto] and perhaps even the potential for crypto betting to eventually become legal in Brazil, which would, I think, set the market out as [having] a very unique practice.”
