Sharp Alpha has released an animated bar chart showing the cumulative dollar amounts wagered on sports by state since June 2018.
The end of the result table calculates all the way up to October 2020 with the total of US Sports Betting Handle by State amounting to $35,132,583,692.
Nevada leads the chart with its total amounting to $12,063,721,810 closely followed by Nevada at $10,850,873,475. Other states on the list included Pennsylvania in third, in fourth place Indiana, fifth place went to Illinois closely followed by Colorado and Mississippi in sixth and seventh place, then Iowa, West Virginia and Rhode Island concluded the top 10 wagering states.
A report made by Research and Markets looking at the United States Online Gambling Market- Growth, Trends and Forecasts for the next five years stated that Pennsylvania is the fastest growing state.
The report states that the reasoning behind this is due to after the: “imminent launch of internet gambling in 2019 in the state of Pennsylvania, the companies are forming partnerships, to handle the spur of demand for these online casino platforms and provide consumers with better online casino-playing experience.”
The report also detailed that the online gambling market in the US has projections to register a CAGR of 15.41%.
Back in October of 2017 Governor Tom Wolf signed a bill into law legalising and regulating online gambling and poker in the state.
The Governor announced a statewide closure in December with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board ordering the closure of all video gaming terminal rooms as part of a COVID-19 mitigation order. Casino Gaming Operations were also suspended as part of this order.
