Responsible gambling charity GambleAware has disclosed its new five-year strategy, focusing on a ‘whole system approach’ to reduce and prevent gambling related harm.

Beginning the group’s presentation on its new roadmap, Chair of Trustees Kate Lampard CBE outlined GambleAware’s ambition for its strategy to be used as a ‘compass for all organisations, partners and individuals working to prevent gambling harm’.

“To keep people safe from gamlbing harms there is a clear need to have appropriate messages, referral routes and care pathways in place,” she remarked.

“This requires a coherent and coordinated whole system approach, which should involve partnerships with the NHS, healthcare agencies, local authorities and include collaboration with those who have lived experience of gambling harm.”

Zoe Osmond, CEO of GambleAware, then discussed the specific details of the strategy, again focusing on a ‘whole system community based response’ to gambling harm, incorporating awareness raising, early intervention and referral routes into treatment’.

She also outlined the group’s primary strategic priorities for the next five years, identifying the following targets:

  • Accelerating engagement and awareness
  • Transforming capacity and capability via a range of partnerships
  • Increasing equality and championing diversity
  • Delivering best-in class commissioning

Describing GambleAware’s overall mission, Osmond said: “We are an independent charity guided by a board of trustees, many of whom work in the health sector.

“Our charitable objectives are twofold – the advancement of education aimed at preventing gambling harm, particularly against young people and those who are most vulnerable.

“Secondly, working with people in Great Britain to keep them safe from gambling harms through the application of that health model.”

Also speaking during the webinar was Dr Jane Rigbye, who outlined GambleAware’s commissioning strategy and its four key objectives.
