Over the past half a decade or so, Las Vegas has witnessed a heavy influx of sports events and establishments.

Plenty of big sporting events have taken place in Vegas in the past from boxing bouts to MMA fights, golf, NASCAR etc. The city has several minor league teams too but no major sports team moved to Vegas until the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights were established in 2017.

WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces were next in 2018 after they moved to the city from San Antonio, then came the NFL’s Raiders from Oakland in 2020. Last week, MLB’s 30 owners unanimously approved the move of the Oakland Athletics to the site of Tropicana Las Vegas, which will be completed by 2028 at the latest. Not only that, but major sporting events are now taking place in the city. The Formula One Championship took over the city last weekend for the Vegas Grand Prix, and the Super Bowl will be in Vegas at Allegiant Stadium in February next year.

With Vegas essentially becoming one of the largest sports markets in the US, what kind of relationship is there between casinos in the city and sports?

This was the topic of today’s episode of iGaming Daily, where Conor Porter is joined by his new Editor on CasinoBeats, Joe Streeter and ex-Las Vegas resident and SBC Americas Editor, Jessica Welman.
