Gambling harm prevention charity GambleAware has released a new film emphasising that “gambling harms can affect anyone”.
The two-minute video, released on the charity’s YouTube channel, features people from a diverse range of backgrounds sharing their experiences of suffering from gambling harm, or supporting someone suffering from problem gambling.
At the beginning of the video, contributors talk about how problem gambling impacted their lives.
Experiences shared include foregoing paying debts to continue gambling and also going to prison due to stealing from their workplace to fund a gambling habit.
Towards the end of the video, the group explain how their life has changed positively since receiving help for their problem gambling behaviours.
The clip ends with the statement: “However you’re feeling right now, we can help.”
GambleAware unveils first RET contributions
In August, GambleAware reported around £300,000 in Research, Prevention and Treatment (RET) donations received between April and June (Q1).
The biggest RET donation was made by Skill on Net Ltd – a total of £40,000 – followed by Star Racing Ltd with £27,547.37 and ProgressPlay Ltd with £24,346.
It is expected that the 2024/25 fiscal year will be the last year in which operators make their donations directly to the charities listed on the UK Gambling Commission’s (UKGC) LCCP registry of approved organisations.
The change precedes the introduction of a statutory levy that will see all RET donations collected by the Gambling Commission and distributed in line with the government’s strategy.
