Constitution Hill has strengthened his profile as a multi-discipline contender after winning his flat debut on a Friday night all-weather card.
Ridden by Oisin Murphy, the elite hurdler delivered a straightforward success in novice company, showing enough pace to raise immediate questions about whether connections could target future flat opportunities alongside his established National Hunt career.
The performance was analysed during the Miller’s Movers segment on the SBK Betting Podcast, where it was noted that while the win creates new options, it also complicates scheduling decisions.
Despite speculation linking the horse with stamina-based targets such as the Ascot Gold Cup or Melbourne Cup, the podcast host argued that performance data points in a different direction.
Constitution Hill recorded a quicker closing two-furlong split than the mile handicappers on the same card, suggesting his strengths lie in speed rather than staying ability.
As a result, the Group 3 Gordon Richards Stakes over 10 furlongs at Sandown in late April was highlighted as a more suitable next step. A run in that race could help establish a flat rating and create a route into Pattern-level company without committing to extreme distances.
Elsewhere in the episode, the podcast reviewed weekend racing results ahead of Cheltenham.
Kempton’s graded meeting saw Luna Artist impress in the Adonis Hurdle with a sharp turn of foot, while the Pendil Chase winner posted a performance that moved him to a mark of 146.
The segment also flagged Gordon Elliott’s Wendrock as a 20/1 bet boost for the Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle, pointing to his prior Festival form and current rating as positives.
Among handicap movers, Charisma May, Fresh Kicks and Owl of Athens all received rating increases, while Quebec, unchanged on 139, was identified as a leading contender for the Ultima Handicap Chase.
