U.K. gambling harm prevention charity GambleAware has officially closed its doors today, following changes to the UK’s gambling levy system.

In a video, posted to the company LinkedIn, GambleAware invited former gamblers who had previously suffered from gambling related harm to open up about how it had affected them.

GambleAware said in the video description, “This video is a reminder that gambling can affect anyone”, something reinforced by each speakers quick background on who they were.

It’s only when the speakers start going into detail about their gambling addictions that you see how universal the effects of gambling harm really are.

Regardless of age, gender or race, every speaker interviewed opened up about feelings of spiraling out of control, prioritising gambling over debts and bills and how they kept it a secret from the people closest to them.

What united them though, was the role GambleAware played in helping them overcome their addiction.

Where before they expressed feelings of self hate and shame, today they are confident, happy and positive about the future, all thanks to GambleAware’s services.

The video ends with a simple, yet powerful message: “However you’re feeling right now, we can help”.

As gambling harm prevention transitions away from companies like GambleAware and towards a government backed body, GambleAware looks to make the transition seamless by reminding people that help is still available on their website, or through the National Gambling Helpline.
