A heated Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Innovation Advisory Committee meeting on 20 August, 2026 has laid bare just how contentious the US prediction markets debate has become, with old-guard exchanges and sports-hungry newcomers clashing over market integrity and jurisdiction.

On this episode of iGaming Daily, host Fernando Noodt is joined by SBC Americas Editor Tom Nightingale to unpack the fallout from the three-hour session, where CME Group chairman and chief executive Terry Duffy publicly challenged Kalshi over self-certified event contracts and cited troubling examples of potential manipulation.

Nightingale flagged real-world cases raising alarm, including trading tied to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and a teleprompter operator allegedly trading on President Donald Trump’s scheduled remarks.

Nightingale said: “There is stuff that is clearly an issue that needs resolving.”

While Kalshi and Polymarket fight the federal-versus-state battle in court, DraftKings and FanDuel have taken a notably muted stance.  Nightingale said: “They’re probably happy to keep quiet and keep making the money.”
