Casinos in the UK have outlined plans to avoid job losses and closures by offering to halt the sale of alcohol within venues.
This proposal comes after Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of Scotland, announced that casinos and hospitality venues in parts of the country will close following a recent surge in coronavirus cases.
Michael Dugher, chief executive of the Betting and Gaming Council, has written to MPs urging them to lobby the government to allow casinos to stay open and “play their part in raising desperately-needed tax revenues for the Treasury, while also stopping the spread of the coronavirus.”

The Global Lottery Management System flagged 452 suspicious betting alerts to partners during the third quarter of 2020, mostly generated by betting on football.
A total of 35 warnings were classified as ‘red alerts’, indicating a more serious offence. This includes suspicious odds changes, insider information being used for betting and rumours of match-fixing from a named source. Of the total alerts, around two-thirds were in Europe

Betting exchanges show Democrat nominee Joe Biden holding a 66 percent chance of winning next month’s US presidential election.
The Electoral College forecast from Smarkets suggests Biden will gain 324 electoral votes, a significant lead compared to the 214 predicted for incumbent Donald Trump.
In addition, former vice-president Biden is now the favourite to take the key swing state of Florida.
According to Smarkets, Biden’s likelihood of victory in the elections is currently double that of Trump.
