At the SBC Awards back in December of 2019 we spoke to industry experts about their predictions of the challenges that they believed 2020 would present to the gambling industry.

What is it?

Something that now seems like a lifetime ago, the video shows you how much we got right and what we didn’t quite anticipate *cough* global pandemic *cough*. 

It looks at new markets, regulation, innovation, responsible gambling, technology and partnerships.

Who is it and what is being said?

Job roles at time of filming December 2019

Todd Mccully, Global Sales Director, Sportradar: “The US is always going to be a topic on everyone’s agenda next year but I think just to focus on the US and not to have an eye towards India and also a regulating Asian market would be somewhat negligent.” 

Jens Bader, Co-Founder, MuchBetter: “New markets are going to open up. Brazil is a big opportunity, the US is unfolding, I think some markets in Asia are opening up as well. Geographic expansion, operators need to be prepared to go into lets say uncontested markets space out of their comfort zones.”

Khalid Ali, CEO, IBIA: “There’s going to be a lot of challenges we already know that the UK government has already got big plans for gambling but that’s going to be replicated across Europe and internationally as well.”

Mikael Gustafsson, Casino Product Manager, LeoVegas: “I hope at least it’s going to be focused more on the product that we deliver. It’s not so much about bonuses anymore, it’s more about what value are you actually creating for your users and how can you retain those customers and that’s going to be something that is ever more important, even in going into the next decade.” 

Andrew Cochrane, Chief Development Officer, SBTech: “Major developments in mobile with the native functionality being imposed on the industry by people like apple. 

“I think we have to be well aware of the wider trends in ecommerce and mobile and I think for us as a business we’re not just looking at 2020 we’re looking at a future proof plan for the next five years.”

Why should I watch it?

It’s a video that makes you deeply appreciate the industry’s ability to navigate and adapt to unforeseeable challenges presented and shows that for the majority of opinions the industry was able to predict the challenges, although not the extent.
