A Callum Wilson goal ensured Newcastle got a point away at Selhurst Park on Saturday, as speculation remains over who will take the hot seat at on Tyneside.

Speaking on William Hill’s Three of the Best, Robbie Savage told Emma Jones that in spite of a lack of Premier League appearances, he believes Fonseca will give Magpies fans real hope.

Fonseca, a former defender, has seen his odds shorten to get the job at Newcastle, with the 48-year-old potentially bringing an abundance of experience to the role having managed across Europe. 

Savage stated: “I know he improves players from his time at previous clubs, I think he would give the Newcastle fans hope, so if they do go for him, which it looks like they will, his history suggests that he can win trophies.”

The Magpies are set for a wild January transfer window, with the influx of investment from their new Saudi ownership as they seek to secure a Premier League future and also take a significant step towards European football.
