On the heels of Saturday’s UFC 277 event in Dallas, Texas, VegasInsider brought in lightweight contender Mark Madsen to break down the event’s main event, along with addressing two possible opponents in the near future.
Juliana Peña vs. Amanda Nunes headlines UFC 277 in a rematch of their first encounter back in December 2021 at UFC 269, where Peña caused a seismic upset by submitting the champion Nunes who was as high as a -1000 favourite.
Despite owning a victory over what many regard as the greatest women’s fighter of all time, Peña is still the underdog heading into the rematch at +210, whilst Nunes stands as a -250 favourite.
Madsen seems to agree with the bookmakers, believing that Nunes will take back her UFC Bantamweight world title in dominant fashion.
He stated: “I think Nunes overlooked Peña in the first fight, I do believe Amanda is going to win this fight, I do believe she is going to win it in a dominant performance. I also do think it will go the distance this time, but I do see Nunes winning the fight.”
Host Joe Osborne expresses the same sentiment theorising Nunes was fighting ‘sloppy’ in their first bout and believes the loss to Peña could be the best thing to happen to her.
Madsen and Osborne did not kick the show off by discussing the fights on UFC 277 however, rather addressing some interesting comments made by Madsen regarding Paddy Pimblett via his Twitter over the weekend.
Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett kept the rollercoaster of momentum going last Saturday in London, defeating Jordan Leavitt by submission in the second round in front of an electric crowd at the O2 Arena.
But Madsen believes he would beat Pimblett ‘any day of the week’ and hit Osborne with a bit of sarcasm when asked why he tweeted at The Baddy.
“First of all I must apologise, my fingers slipped. Instead of typing baddy it went over to the fatty but he looked good. I thought his performance was actually decent but that being said, I do believe I can beat Paddy The Baddy any day of the week.”
Madsen also had words for lightweight Drakkar Klose after their recent exchanges over Twitter, and picked UFC legend Jim Miller as an opponent he would most like to compete against.
