Darren Gough stated Australia are “not as easy to crack” compared to other teams with the former cricketer also lauding England’s form over the last 12 months.

Joining Adam Catterall on the second episode of Full Circle from bet365, Gough, ahead of the second Test starting this week, provided his thoughts on a thrilling encounter at Edgbaston and his views on Bazball.

“There was some great cricket from day one, some bizarre cricket, bizarre cricket declared on day one,” commented Gough. “I mean I was sat there like that, what? Root not out? But to declare. This is the way this England team played.

“The belief from the management from Baz and from Stokes who leads from the front, he actually sacrifices his game too much. I think to play that way, because if he doesn’t do it, they won’t follow. So he does it, and he sacrifices his own statistics, really, for the other players to follow his lead but it’s worked.

On Australia, Gough stated: “They will play an aggressive brand of cricket there’s no doubt about it, they’re not someone who just plays old-fashioned cricket. They’re always at the front but what they do is get their noses in front and they dig in and totally knock you out of it.

“You’ve got to remember they’ve won this test match without number one and two batters in the world getting runs. That would be my worry. Smith and Labuschagne, no runs and they win the test match.”

Commenting on the second episode, a spokesperson from bet365 said: “Following the success of our launch episode with Jaap Stam, who better to open the bowling in Episode 2 than former England star Darren Gough.

“Adam and Darren’s friendship really helped to bring out the best in Darren as he shared stories from his career, and looked forward towards the remaining four Ashes Tests.

“We’re thrilled to deliver amazing insight from sporting heroes, and excited to go full circle with more icons in the future.”
