“The greatest show in gaming”, SBC Summit Lisbon, is fast approaching which means that there are only a few weeks left for the five finalists of the SBC First Pitch competition to hone their presentations.
On the line in Lisbon is an exclusive prize package, valued at approximately €118,000, to assist in the winner’s development and growth plans.
Representatives from the five startups will be tasked with presenting a three-minute pitch to the competition’s five judges, and they joined Jesse Learmonth on The Betting Startups podcast to introduce themselves and detail their preparations for the final.
Tom Lemke, Founder & CEO of Savage Tech, a software as a service (SaaS) company for the gaming industry, explained that he has reflected on his performance in previous pitches ahead of SBC Summit Lisbon.
He said: “I think in the past I made some mistakes. When it comes to being on stage and you have such a short amount of time you need lots of pictures and as little text as possible and also try to convey your personal story and narrative on how you ended up creating this company.
“I think that is the only thing that I can do within three minutes and then, of course, smile, be friendly to the judges and hopefully the questions that they are asking will actually make sense.”
Mark Flores Martin from XGENIA agreed with the need to use visuals and explained his company has plans to use a 30-second video to introduce themselves and help “generate the buzz” that XGENIA has been creating around itself.
Some of the competitors have previously been finalists in the SBC First Pitch competition and can draw on that experience in Lisbon.
StatX Sports, suppliers of odds and data products to the sports and gaming industry, were finalists in the competition at SBC Summit North America and its CEO, Shawn Tucker, spoke about the evolution of the company.
“The main difference between us now and then is that we have a lot more focus,” explained Tucker.
“We have a greater understanding of what the market opportunity is and the product that operators and those data providers want from us. I think you’ll see we’re much further along than we were and our product is a differentiator. We’re taking a Silicon Valley approach to a problem that people have been trying to solve since before the iPhone started.”
The other finalists for the event are Match Hype, a creator of sports video content using raw data, and Random State, a supplier of immersive ilottery and bingo games.
