Premier League side Aston Villa have shown their support for this year’s Safer Gambling Week.

Beginning today (18 November), the event is a “cross-industry initiative” to promote safer gambling in the UK and Ireland.

Marking the start of the initiative, Aston Villa posted on X, formerly Twitter, that it is “proud to support Safer Gambling Week 2024” alongside Betano, the club’s front-of-shirt partner.

Betano, also the title sponsor of the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League, also posted on X.

It stated: “Safer gambling isn’t just for one week per year, it’s for every week in the year. Find support and advice on how to stay in control of your gambling below.”

Betano was not the only operator to show its support for Safer Gambling Week. A host of operators and industry stakeholders including Leovegas, bet365 and the Racing Post promoted similar messages on their social media platforms.

BGC CEO visits Coral

To mark the start of the week, the Betting and Gaming Council’s (BGC) CEO Grainne Hurst visited a Coral retail site to “highlight the tools available to help people stay in control”.

In a video posted by the BGC, she said: “This is already a well-established and cross-industry event.

“We know that in the UK, 22.5 million people like to have a flutter every month. The vast majority do so safely and responsibly. But Safer Gambling Week is a great moment in time where we can collaborate to raise awareness about the tools that are available to help our customers stay in control.”

“For BGC members, Safer Gambling Week isn’t just for one week a year, it is our focus and our priority all year round.”
