NFL icons Peyton and Eli Manning will finally get to compete head-to-head on the Super Bowl stage.
The brothers, who are both two-time Super Bowl Champions, never met in the NFL’s championship game during their decorated careers. However, now they will get the chance in the third instalment of FanDuel’s ‘Kick of Destiny’.
The pair will be attempting a 25-yard field goal on Super Bowl Sunday in New Orleans ahead of kick-off. FanDuel customers have been offered a free pick on which Manning will win, with those who choose correctly gaining an equal share of $10m in bonus bets.
Previously, in the first two editions of FanDuel’s campaign, former Patriots star Rob Gronkowski attempted to make field goals from the same distance but failed on both occasions. Last year, each FanDuel customer who voted against ‘Gronk’ making the kick was awarded a $25 bonus bet.
Andrew Sneyd, Executive VP of Marketing at FanDuel, commented: “For year three, we’re raising the stakes by introducing a rivalry and a head-to-head Kick of Destiny competition.”
“Peyton & Eli Manning will make history by competing against each other live for the first time in Super Bowl history. May the best Manning win!”
Eli’s unrealised dream
To launch the Kick of Destiny 3 campaign FanDuel has released an ad featuring the Manning brothers in which Eli unexpectedly reveals that he always wanted to be a kicker.
The spot then throws back to the pair’s childhood and shows Eli splitting the uprights and celebrating as if he has won the Super Bowl., Peyton, standing on the sidelines, mocks his brother, telling him that he’ll “just have to be a quarterback like me and dad”.
Coming back to the modern day, Peyton promises to do his best to prevent Eli from reaching his “destiny” of winning the competition.
The campaign will continue to follow the Mannings as they prepare for the competition and will culminate with the field goal competition on Super Bowl Sunday, which will be shown as part of Fox’s pre-game coverage.
