DraftKings’ ‘The Sweat’: Is Louis Oothuizen the dark horse of the Open?
The 150th annual Open Championship tees off today at the Old Course at St. Andrews, with many of the world’s greatest golfers vying for the final major of the year.
4x major winner and 2014 Open champion Rory McIlroy is returning to British shores as the betting favourite to lift the Claret Jug, followed by Cameron Smith, Cameron Young and recently crowned Scottish Open champion Xander Schauffele.
But a DraftKing sportsbook analyst believes that the 2010 Open champion and former number four world ranked player, Louis Oothuizen, can prove to be a great betting price and potential dark horse to win it all.
The DK sports analyst spoke on the most recent episode of ‘The Sweat’, stating: “No one’s going to pay him because he’s +8800, he’s 31 under par at his last eight rounds in the Open… it’s the perfect course for Louis.
“He’s going to make the cut, he’s probably going to get in there in the top 20 and everyone’s going to be asking ‘why didn’t I just play Louis at St. Andrews?’, yeah you should pay up for him.”
Oothuizen’s last European tour win did, however, come at his home nation in the South African Open in December 2018, besting runner-up Romain Langasque.
The South African became one of many high-profile golfers to join the controversial Saudi-backed LIV gold tour, alongside greats such as Phil Mickleson, Dustin Johnson and Ian Poulter.
