Betway presents cricket commentator Kevin Pietersen’s day in the life in Dubai at 2020’s Indian Premier League (IPL).
The former England captain moved to the UK in 2000, later making his Test match debut in the 2005 Ashes series eventually beating Australia. For his and his team’s role in the win, they were recognised in the 2006 New Year Honours, having been appointed as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to cricket.
Based at The Oberoi in Dubai for the 2020 IPL, he detailed how he was only allowed to hang out with the other commentators as players and commentators each have their own separate bubbles.
Starting with his morning routine, Pietersen disclosed: “I wake up at around 9:00, 6:00 London time and have a couple of coffees, catch up on social media. That takes about an hour and then I enter into a ride on my bike, get onto the racing and then it’s a case of popping into the pool for half an hour to an hour, catching some rays, getting some vitamin D. Up, changed and it’s off to the ground.”
Arriving at the stadium grounds, safety is seen as paramount as Pietersen arrived for his sixth Covid test since his arrival. After which, he is provided with his own personal microphone in order to not share at the risk of cross contamination.
Then he’s on to conduct the pitch report: “We’ve been in the pitch report now for the past three weeks and what are we doing today, we are talking about pace today.“
Since the publication of the video, Pietersen has had to leave the IPL commentary panel due to family responsibilities. Writing on his Twitter: “I left the IPL as it’s half term for my kids and I want to be at home with them. It’s been a strange year, so now they’re off school, I want to be with them all day, everyday,”
