As the sporting world eagerly awaits the highly anticipated 2020 European Championship, Bettingexpert provides a breakdown of the tournament and the participating teams.

What is it?

Bettingexpert’s Joe Ryan speaks to two football fanatics – one former player and one lifeline fan of the sport – about the upcoming Euros, and the different team’s chances in the competition.

Who is it?

Host – Joe Ryan, Bettingexpert

Speaker – Wayne Bridge, former England national football team left-back

Speaker – Rory Jennings, actor, YouTuber and football fan

What is being said?

Discussing what the Euros meant to them, Bridge began: “The only one that really stands out for me is 1996, when England did well and could have gone a lot further. The standout for me was watching Gazza score, and then the dentist chair celebration. Obviously the only other game that really stands out was the Germany game. We should have won it, we had chances to win it, but obviously it wasn’t to be.”

Jennings added: “The big moments tend to come from the underdogs, if you look at the Greek side in Portugal that totally ruined Portugal’s party. I think they beat them in their first game, and then beat them again in the final. That was huge. It’s a tournament I adore and I can’t wait for it to get started.”

Moving on to discuss the different country’s chances in this year’s Euros, the speakers noted that England were ‘amongst the favourites for a change’ at odds of 11/2.

When asked if England ‘hold all the aces,’ Bridge replied: “People talk about home and away, and playing at Wembley – it didn’t bother me personally if I was playing home or away, but for some people it can affect, but I think you see that more in the Premier League, at an international level it doesn’t matter as much.

“For me, playing those group stages at home doesn’t mean a lot. The players, even if they’re playing in another country, will still be up for the game. We don’t know if the fans are going to be there yet, and how that is going to influence. So I don’t think they hold all the aces no, except for with players.”
