Premier League football returned this past weekend with one of the more high-profile results coming at Craven Cottage, as title contenders Liverpool drew to newly promoted Fulham in a disappointing performance.
BetVictor’s latest episode of ‘Last Fan Standing’ goes into detail with host Flav, Liverpool fan Paul Machin, Man United fan Adam McKola, and Arsenal fan Lee Judges on if the Liverpool performance was a cause for concern.
Machin, whilst being half-hearted in the ‘dramatic result’, was cautious of dismissing Liverpool’s title chances after just one game into the season. Machin credits Manchester City’s consistent results year over year as almost like a knockout tournament, believing any point dropped almost feels like your out of league title contention.
McKola and Judges were keen to highlight Liverpool’s frailties within midfield, acknowledging Thiago’s recent injury and Henderson’s age working against him.
Moving on to the most surprising moment of the weekend, or lack of surprise in this case to many, was Manchester United’s home loss to Brighton in coach Erik ten Hag’s first game in charge.
United fan McKola says he was not surprised by the result as he believes United were ‘not ready for this season’. Judges singles out Bruno Fernandes’ ‘anonymous’ performances recently and also went on to criticise ten Hag’s management this summer, in particular over handling Cristiano Ronaldo’s request to leave the club.
Tottenham and Arsenal fans Flav and Judges, respectively, had time to compare the North London rivals’ starts to the season after impressive performances in victory. Both Spurs and Arsenal are looking to make a top four position this season.
