England’s 2-1 defeat to Spain on Sunday night brought to a close the 2024 European Championships and also marked one final chance for Paddy Power to poke fun at the home nations football fans expanse.
This time, the Flutter-owned firm released a mock horror film in which a Scottish couple has moved from London to rural Ireland only to find out that their next-door neighbours are England fans.

Initially, they are not concerned as they don’t think that England will win but as the tournament progresses they become more and more desperate to leave as the prospect looms of an England victory.
The twist in the story is that it turns out that the whole ordeal had been the dream of the Scotland fan on the night of the final and when he wakes up he finds out “the nightmare is over” as England lost to Spain in the final.
Prior to the final, Paddy Power released an advert featuring Talksport’s Alan Brazil, broadcaster Charlie Nicholas and former footballer Pat Nevin which shows the Scottish trio “devoting their lives to” Spain ahead of the final and explaining their “life-long” links to the country through their participation in its culture.

Paddy Power has been one of the most active operators in terms of marketing during Euro 2024. Throught the tournament it reacted to trends and results of matches with funny clips and videos that were posted across the company’s social media channels.
Its flagship advert featured Danny Dyer and celebrated England being “Europe’s favourites” by poking fun at the behaviour of England football fans on the continent.
It also released a second advert with the viral England fan Andy Milne, who is famous for following England around the world and is often seen on TV during the games.
