Ladbrokes and Coral operator Entain has announced a range of new green measures and commitments, as part of its #MakeTodayMatter campaign.

Carbon neutrality has been a key objective of Entain’s for some time now, having launched its sustainability charter outlining key green initiatives in December 2020, shortly after completing its rebranding from its GVC Holdings identity.

Regarding the launch of the new initiative, Jette Nygaard-Andersen, Entain CEO, remarked: “I’m excited to tell you that we are launching our #MakeTodayMatter campaign today. As you know, we set an ambitious target to reduce our carbon emissions to net zero by 2035.

“Right now, some of us are in our offices, shops, or stadia, some working from home, but wherever we start by simple actions and better choices.”

Virginia McDowel, Non-Executive Director and Chair of the SG Committee, added: “Protecting our environment is part of our wider ESG commitments. We are the only betting and gaming company to set a target of 2035, and the first to achieve international environmental standards. We are absolutely committed to this.”

The operator has managed to half carbon emissions per employee since 2017, but Colin Gray, Environmental Manager, believes that ‘there is still a lot to do’ for Entain to achieve its green goals.

Gray detailed how the operator will continue its cooperation with the Carbon Trust, utilising scientific-based targets that align with the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change.

Meanwhile, Group HSSE Director, Steve Howells, said that the group could cut both its emissions and its costs, and would be ‘bringing a whole group of people’ together in order to do so.

Adrian Bower, Group Procurement Director, remarked: “There’s a huge opportunity within our supply chain to reduce our carbon footprint, and that’s why it’s a massive priority was who and what we buy and how we partner will be a key focus for us going forward.”

Finishing the video launch, Joem Teddoro, HSSE Manager Manilla, said: “Manilla and the Philippines as a whole is on the front line against climate change, as is our office in Hyderabad, India.

“It can be overwhelming, but our #MakeTodayMatter campaign is something that we can get all behind and feel proud that we are playing our part.”
